The Annual General Meeting of the Friends of St Peter’s saw a number of changes to the committee.
Both chairman, Brian Williams, and treasurer John Freemantle stood down from office with Frances Knight and Nick Wise taking on their respective roles. Brian was elected as Vice Chairman.
In his Chairman’s Report Brian paid tribute to three other committee members who were standing down:- Mary Burton, Joyce Darwent and John Tudor.
All three of these members have contributed vastly to the Friends over the years.
Joyce was one of the founder members, Mary served for many years and very kindly hosted the Committee meetings at her home and John, who has also been a committee member for several years, introduced the Horse racing event which has now become an annual favourite.
The outgoing chairman also listed the planned events for the coming year (see the Events section of this site).
In the Treasurer’s Report John Freemantle explained that overall the ‘Friends’ had raised more money than the previous year, largely attributed to the Charles Timberlake concert and the Open Gardens event (a bi annual event).
All other events also did well. All made a profit. The Treasurer also thanked TACT who have again given a donation from the proceeds of their latest production.
Addressing the audience Frances explained her approach to the role, saying, “I’ve attended a number of FOSP Committee meetings in order to get an overview of the Chairman’s role and was impressed at how well members worked together as a team.
“St. Peter’s Church is a special place for me and I look forward to my new role in supporting this wonderful Church.”
